The first people to arrive at the Web 2.0 party did so seven years ago - helping to set up the barbeque, stock the fridge, put the nibbles out etc. Then business arrived fashionably late, about two years later. Business was very popular so once it got there, all businesses's friends wanted to be there as well. Over the next few years assorted others came along, not wanting to miss out on the action that everybody was talking about.
For quite a while Government thought about showing its face - everybody else was there after all. It tried a bit of You Tube, the odd podcast and even some webcasting, but being a bit of a prude, it didnt want to go without an invitation.
Then in June 2007, the Power of Information, an independent study produced by Tom Steinberg and Ed Mayo landed on the Government's doorstep and was just the sort of belated invitation it was waiting for.
So, bottle of St Emmillion 1987 in one hand, invitation in the other, the Government has decided that better late than never, it wouldnt mind turning up at the Web 2.0 shindig after all.
Problem is, now its here and ready to party, the Government's beginning to wonder why all the Doritos are gone, the Rolls Royce is in the pool and everyone's talking about moving onto that Web 3.0 knees-up just around the corner...
